It's difficult to make time to connect with friends, even though this could reduce stress. However, during Nepali festivals, young Nepali Australians manage their time and try to have fun. They explore programs organised by various Nepali communities and clubs through social media. Recreational cultural programs become their means to reduce stress.

(Using Music to Deepen Cultural Connections)

About the storyteller
(Mr In-ho Cha loves Samulnori (genre of percussion music that originated in Korea) and traditional music. Samulnori helps connect him to his cultural roots. In May this year, Mr Cha got a chance to showcase his Janggu (traditional drum) performance at a local festival hosted by the Ebenezer Mission Centre. Before the festival, he carried out a special project – buying new Janggu and clothes by selling plastic and glass bottles collected with the support of local businesses. In addition to Samulnori, Mr Cha also participates in other activities provided by the Eben, leaving him no time to become bored! His story demonstrates that disability should not be a stumbling block to living well.
About the storyteller
When Mr Inho Cha first visited the Ebenezer Music Centre, which provides interesting activities for people with disabilities, his face was not as bright as it is now. Meeting new people and learning new things at Eben over the last three years has given him a more frequent reason to smile. Mr Cha was born in Australia yet his interest in Korean culture and traditional music led him to the journey of learning Samulnori, a traditional percussion ensemble, with the support of a traditional Korean band in the community. Mr Cha’s skilful performance creates a powerful response in challenging the prejudice associated with his disability.
