Passionnée de voyage et de liberté, Michèle Meffre a fait plusieurs fois le tour du monde sur un voilier et en famille. Au bout de 25 ans, Michèle a finalement mis pied à terre en Tasmanie, petite île australienne du bout du monde qui a su conquérir son cœur. En 2005, Michèle fonde l’Agence Tasmanie Voyage afin de partager sa passion pour son île d’adoption avec ses clients venus des quatre coins du monde. Depuis qu’elle a passé le flambeau de son agence en 2019, Michele est très impliquée auprès de la communauté française de Tasmanie.

She takes us with her on the roads of this beautiful island and tells us about the routes, services and resources available for people with disabilities. She also has advice on how to plan your visit well when you have reduced mobility and shares tips and must-see places on the island.

Passionate about travel and freedom, Michèle Meffre sailed around the world with her family more than once. After 25 years, Michèle finally set foot ashore in Tasmania, a small Australian island at the end of the world which stole her heart at first sight. In 2005, Michèle founded the Tasmanie Voyage to share her passion for her adopted island with clients from all over the world. Since passing the torch of her agency in 2019, Michele has been heavily involved with the French community in Tasmania.

(In this episode, Tony shares with us how he finds happiness by connecting with "Telelink" (Vision Australia). In this social group, Tony can chat with other vision impaired persons in Australia using his mother language - Cantonese. He enjoys sharing his interests with others, and he also gains support from this social group. Building friendships and social connection is so important to him, and also a golden key to his happiness. Tony encourages people with vision impairment to stay socially connected and search out happiness from there.

Tony is visually impaired and has been seeking ways to live well with his condition. Tony has expanded his social circles further by connecting with the community and other people, adding more zest and joy to his life.

Bize meclis uyesi olarak hizmet verdigi Konseyin Engelli Erişim ve Kapsayıcılık Planı'ndan bahsediyor. Bu plan Konsey'in engellilik taahhüdüne ilişkin en güçlü beyanlarından biri olarak kabul edilmekte. Bu plan, Konseyin hizmet verdigi tüm alanlarda, mekanlarda, hizmetlerde ve sunulan bilgilerin engelli insanlar için daha fazla erişilebilir ve kapsayıcı olmasını sağlama amacını vurgulamaktadır.
Oscar, Moreland sakinlerinin, ozellikle engelli kisilerin refahına katkıda bulunmaya devam etmekte ve engelliler icin daha fazla erişimi ve kapsayıcılığı her zaman desteklemektedir. Konsey, NDIS'e uygun olmayan engelli kişiler için de ev destek hizmetleri sunuyor. Bu hizmetler arasında eve teslim edilen yemekler, kişisel bakım, evde bakım, alışveriş yardımı gibi konular yer almaktadır. (Oscar Yıldız is a Turkish Australian who works as a Councillor and JP in Moreland City Council in Victoria. He discusses the Council's Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, which is considered to be one of Council’s strongest declarations to their commitment to disability inclusion. This plan highlights Council’s aim to ensure all our places, spaces, services and information are accessible and inclusive of people with disability.
Oscar continues to contribute to the wellbeing of the Moreland Community and has always reflected and supported disability access and inclusion. Council delivers home support services for people with a disability who are not eligible for the NDIS. These services include things like delivered meals, personal care, home care, shopping assistance, and respite. The services are individually tailored and are designed to maintain people’s independence in their own homes for as long as possible. He also highlights welcoming and accessible organisations and places where people with disabilities, especially those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, can get suggestions about living well.
Please be aware that in this interview, the guest speaker uses outdated identify-first language to discuss disability. Many people now prefer person-first language. About the guest speaker
My Guest Speaker, Oscar Yildiz is a Turkish Australian who works as a Councillor and JP in Moreland Council in Victoria. Oscar graduated from Coburg High School and LaTrobe University. He completed the Bachelor of Social Sciences and the Diploma in Teaching. He has worked in various industries including, retail, hospitality, sales, events, not-for-profit, education, manufacturing, warehousing, transport and many others.
Oscar entered politics in 2005 and was appointed Mayor twice, Deputy Mayor and Councillor of the Moreland City Council since 2008. He has and continues to hold various leadership positions in local government. He is a Justice of the Peace, a Graduate of the Institute of Company Directors, LaTrobe University Distinguished Alumni, an Ambassador of White Ribbon Australia, a member of Lions and the Number 1 ticket holder for various sporting clubs and community groups. Oscar has served on many Boards and was instrumental in driving memberships as Secretary of the Australian Turkish Business Council (ATBC). He is the father of two girls, Elisa and Lara, and a husband to Sylvia, who operates her own small business in the City of Moreland.

(Ashwaq's affiliations with the University of Tasmania have made a huge difference in the lives of individuals, especially individuals with disabilities. An online program call Strivers has assisted a significant number of students. The program focuses on assisting students via social media, by sharing everyday routines, information and stories. One of the students who has a hearing issue and language barrier approached Ashwaq about his struggle of creating positive relationships. The program has improved his sense of belonging as he can now choose activities that work for him (such as education, friends, networks, sport etc..).

Ashwaq is an active advocate for international students and students with disability. She's been volunteering with a number of organisations as well as individually. Ashwaq is keen to provide and create inclusive activities that ensures people with disabilities, and especially from international student backgrounds, are included and have a sense of belonging.
