Ms. Thi Phuong is a Vietnamese refugee who crossed the border to Australia more than 30 years ago in a wheelchair. She gained support from the Diversity and Disability Alliance (DDA), an organisation for people with disabilities from ethnic backgrounds.

The library's mission goes beyond the simple loan of books; for example, you can access many online resources from home or participate in their book club. The library aspires to be an inclusive space for people to exchange, learn and develop relationship skills.

Kerry早在1987 年隨家人從香港移民到澳洲。儘管早期在中學上課時,在英語語言學習中遇到不少挑戰和困難,最後Kerry於 1996 年以優異的成績完成了教學和教育學士。Kerry 於 1997 年開始了她的教學生涯,作為中文和音樂小學教師。她參與了 DET(教育部)和語言協會眾多的教育研究和項目,使她擔任不同的角色,不僅是Doncaster Gardens小學和VSL的中文老師、教育學術和中文系主任,以及 DET 亞洲研究維州東區主任。 Kerry 目前是維州公立語言學校區域經理之一,負責管理四個校區,致力為學前至 12 年級學生提供超過 15 種語言學習課程。
(When learning a new language, learners can acquire not only knowledge about its history and culture, but also communication skills which are beneficial to future job search. In this episode, Charmaine has invited Ms Kerry Law, the area manager of the Victorian School of Languages (VSL) to tell us about the inclusive language programs in VSL. VSL is a mainstream government school with more than forty campuses in Victoria offering different languages training to students. Kerry also shares with us how VSL assists students with disability, enabling them an effective and happy learning journey.

Kerry migrated from Hong Kong to Australia with her family in 1987. Despite all the challenges and difficulties she completed with high distinctions from Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Education in 1996. Kerry began her teaching career in 1997 as the Chinese language and a general music teacher at primary schools. Her involvement in numerous educational research and projects with DET (Department of Education) and languages associations lead her into different roles, not only as a Chinese teacher at Doncaster Gardens Primary School and the Victorian School of Languages, a Professional Learning Team Coordinator and Chinese faculty coordinator for VSL Area East 1, as well as the DET Eastern Metropolitan Region Studies of Asia Network Leader. Kerry currently is one of the Victorian School of Languages Area Managers who manages four campuses with over 15 languages offered for Foundation to Year 12 students.

Nguyễn Thị Minh Tâm là người hướng dẫn nói tiếng Việt duy nhất trong các khóa cấp cứu về Sức khỏe Tâm thần của cộng đồng Việt Nam. Từ năm 2008 đến nay, Minh Tâm đã hướng dẫn 38 lớp với gần 1500 học viên hoàn thành khóa học. Trong số các học viên của cô có nhiều người sống với tình trạng sức khỏe tâm thần, và nhiều người từ các tiểu bang khác cũng đến Sydney để tham gia khóa học này.
(Why is it worth learning about a local mental health first aid course? People living with disabilities are more likely to experience the mental health impacts of social isolation, even if they are inherently optimistic people, and this has been worsened during the pandemic's prolonged lockdowns. That's why you should seek out mental health first aid courses to learn the early signs of mental health distress, as well as how to overcome them. The courses not only educate the community but also promote practises that maintain good mental health.

Thi Minh Tam Nguyen is the only Vietnamese-speaking instructor in the Vietnamese community's Mental Health First Aid courses. Since 2008, Minh Tam has guided 38 classes with nearly 1,500 students completing the course. Among her students are many people living with mental health conditions, and many people from other states also come to Sydney to attend this course.

This storyteller is a woman who lives with her son and husband, and enjoys spending time with her extended family as well as immediate. She enjoys going for walks often, and is very thankful for the support services she has discovered in Australia over the past couple of years.

(Our storyteller acquired diverse talents and potential in the community. He is improving and achieving success in the community because of his outstanding effort and passion for football. He believes that community football club should be inclusive to people with disabilities because sports could be a great way for a community to connect and maintain the brotherhood between youngsters also. Sports can bring people together from all walks of life. Sports is a prime opportunity for community members to bond. When people go to play and watch the game, they can make new friends and strengthen old relationships.

Our storyteller is one of the active members in the community. He started a community football club with the help and support of his friends, and he participates in football games and tournaments with other clubs. His abilities are not confined to football; he has also completed barber training in a barbershop and is serving as a professional barber in the community. He talked about how following one's passion and putting one's skills to good use can help people live more effectively in a diverse community.

تعتبر الدكتورة جبريل ثروة معرفية في مجالها. أكملت تدريبها التخصصي في طب الأمراض الجلدية في مستشفى الأميرة ألكسندرا ومستشفى كوينزلاند للأطفال. الدكتورة جبريل حاصلة على تأهيل مزدوج وتعمل كزميلة للكلية الأسترالية للأمراض الجلدية وكذلك البورد الأردني للأمراض الجلدية. تعمل الدكتورة جبريل حاليًا كمسؤولة طبية زائرة (VMO) في مستشفى كوينزلاند للأطفال وهي احدى كبار المحاضرين في جامعة كوينزلاند. بعض اهتمامات الدكتورة جبريل الخاصة يشمل ما يلي: الجلدية الطبية بما في ذلك حب الشباب والصدفية والطفح الجلدي. تشخيص وعلاج سرطان الجلد.
(Skin impairments are conditions that affect people from all backgrounds in Australia. In our interview with Dr. Jibreal, She introduces us to the different skin conditions that impact people's lives. She offers the knowledge and tools to seek help in diagnosing, treating and living well with long term skin conditions and impairments.
About the guest speaker
Dr. Jibreal is a wealth of knowledge in her field. She completed her dermatology specialist training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland Children’s Hospital. Dr. Jibreal holds dual qualifications as a fellow of the Australian College of Dermatologists as well as the Jordanian Board of Dermatology.
Dr Jibreal is currently a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at the Queensland Children’s Hospital and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. Some of Dr. Jibreal's special interests include:

(People with disabilities can face barriers to accessing health services. Community Health Workers can assist people with disabilities to identify health needs and find appropriate support. This organisation is a mainstream organisation, providing services to people with and without disabilities. In its service provision and philosophy, it aims to be accessible and inclusive. Today's guest speaker will share the importance of delivering inclusive health sessions that assists Arabic speakers with disabilities to live well in Tasmania. The community health sessions help individuals with disabilities to live healthy and well in Tasmania as it provides the educational support they need to minimise any cultural, physical challenges they might face. The story will create awareness amongst individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are living with disabilities and looking for resources that help them access services and places to improve their health and wellbeing.

Yehya is a community health worker with the Australian Red Cross. Yehya is passionate about supporting individuals with their settlements, and always active in his community looking for ways to create awareness about health and wellbeing. Yehya believes that, health is very important in our lives, and many people especially migrants forget to take care of their own health and wellbeing while settling in a new country. Individuals from all backgrounds should've equal assistance to all health services, a good understanding of the resources available to them to make them feel part of the community, able t make their own decisions.
