(This story illustrates how driving skills make the storyteller independent. The storyteller has talked about her passion for driving and took the initiative to learn this skill. She has made this choice on her own. She has explored the procedure to get a full license in Victoria with the support of her partner. She has gotten familiar with the online platforms and booked her learner computer test on the VicRoads website by herself. The storyteller said she has cleared her learner computer test on the first attempt. She has mentioned that before attempting the hazard test, she watched youtube videos to get some ideas on how to attempt this test and she has cleared that exam and booked her final driving test after a few driving lessons, and also cleared in one go. She said she is glad that she has achieved her goal and being able to drive has made her life easy because she works in a catering business. She is enjoying her life and living well after learning how to drive.

The storyteller has talked about her story of how driving made her life easy and joyful. Motivated by her dedication, passion, and needs, she learnt to drive with support from her partner. She said her first experience of driving a car was not only a learning one but also a time of joy, happiness, and excitement. It paved the way to trying more exciting and pleasurable things. The storyteller said she can socialise more and has made many good friends within her community.

(In this interview, guest speaker Chelsea from Oriental Care highlights disability accessible venues and activities that promote social inclusion. Oriental Care organises gatherings at a yumcha restaurant, seasonal day trips, birthday celebrations and participation in traditional festivals so people can make and maintain friendships. People with disabilities also get to learn new skills through activities like community English classes, and workshops teaching interests like calligraphy or social dancing. This interview shares examples of inclusive activities and events that support inclusion and community participation in a culturally relevant way.

Chelsea Chen is the event manager from Oriental Care. She has extensive experience in organising social events for the Chinese-speaking community in Brisbane for Oriental Care. She will share valuable information from event types available to clients' favourite part of the events.

Ana Maria Román es una Psicóloga que disfruta del yoga y el remo en table de surfing como terapia para volver a conectar con las personas y aprender a mejorar su salud. Ha estado sufriendo una enfermedad crónica en la que tuvo que volver a aprender a respirar, caminar y comer. Estuvo aislada por COVID19, pero descubrió que el yoga está mejorando su confianza en sí misma y su salud.
(Ana Maria Roman was an athlete, but she stopped for several years after developing Guillain-Barre syndrome. Eventually, yoga and paddle boarding became her escape, and a new reason for living by allowing her to build confidence and new relationships. She will share a little bit of her story to encourage people with a disability to find a meaningful hobby.
About the storyteller
Ana Maria Roman is a Psychologist who enjoys yoga and paddle boarding to connect again with people and learn how to improve her health. As a result of a chronic illness, she had to learn how to breathe, walk and eat again. She was isolated for COVID19, but she discovered that yoga is improving her self-confidence and her health.

गोपीको यो गीतले उनको गीत गाउने क्षमताको मापन गर्छ । लनचेस्टनको नेपाली समुदायमा गोपी राई एक गायकका रूपमा चिनिन्छन् उनको राम्रो गीत गाउने क्षमता देखेर गोपीलाई नेपाली समुदायले आयोजना गर्नै कार्यक्रममा गीत गाउनका लागि अफर आउन थाल्यो । त्यसरी नेपाली सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रममा गोपीको माग बढ्न थालेपछि साथीभाइ र घर परिवारले पनि उनलाई हौ सल्ला दिन थाले । उनी भन्छिन्, ''मैले कार्यक्रम स्टेजमा गएर गीत गाउँदा गीत गाउन पटक पटक अफर आउँथ्यो । उनका गीतमा जम्नेहरूको जमात पनि ठुलै हुन्थ्यो ।''
तर, अहिले उनी सार्वजनिक कार्यक्रममा सहभागी हुन छाडेकी छन् । किनकि उनले आफ्नो सङ्गीतलाई अझ राम्रो बनाउने प्रयासमा छिन् । हामी उनको घर पुग्दा आफै गीत गुनगुनाइ रहेकी थिइन् । हामीसँगको भेटमा उनले भनिन् ''म सबै प्रकारका नेपाली गीतहरू गाउन सक्छु । अहिले त युट्युबबाट सुनेर पनि मैले मेरो सङ्गीतलाई अझ राम्रो बनाउँदै लगेको छु ।''
त्यसो त उनले सङ्गीतको कुनै कक्षा लिएकी छैनन् । आफ्नै प्रयासले उनलाई सङ्गीतमा सफलता मिल्दै लगेको छ । उनी भन्छिन् हामी अपाँगता भएका मानिसहरूले केही न केही गर्नै प्रयास गर्नुपर्छ । समाजमा हामीलाई हेर्नै दृष्टिकोणमा परिवर्तन ल्याउनु पर्छ । हामी अपाङ्ग भए पनि फरक क्षमता भएका अन्य व्यक्तिजस्तै हौँ ।

तास्मानियाको लनचेस्टन निवासी गोपी राई नेपाली भासी भुटानी हुन् । उनले जन्मदै दुवै आँखा गुमाएकी छिन् । तै पनि उनले पढाइ लाई निरन्तरता दिइन् । पढ्दा पढ्दै उनी गीत सङ्गीतमा पनि रुचि राख्न थालिन् । उनको गीतप्रतिको लगावले गीतमै भविष्य खोजिरहेकी छन् ।

This song measures the singing ability of Gopi. She is well known as a singers amongst the Nepali Australian community in Launceston. When others recognised her ability to sing well, Gopi was offered to sing in the programmes organised by her local Nepali community. As the demand for Gopi grew in Nepali cultural programmes, her friends and family also encouraged her. "As I started singing on stages, I started getting singing offers. And crowds were huge during the programmes," she says.
However, she has stopped participating in public programmes. Now, she is trying to hone her musical skills. When we arrived to interview her, she was humming to herself. "I can sing all types of songs. I am honing my musical skills by listening to the music on YouTube," she said during our interview.
Although, Gopi has not taken any formal classes of music, she is getting success in music through her own efforts. She says people with disability should try to pursue their interests. "We need to change society's perception towards us. Despite our disability, we are like other people with different abilities," she says.
"I am planning to get my vocals tested rather than trying to judge myself. But I am not aware where to go to get tested. I need support for my music," Gopi says.
About the storyteller
Resident of Launceston, Tasmania, Gopi Rai is a Nepali language speaking Bhutanese. Gopi was born blind but this did not impact her ability to study. Along with her studies, she became interested in music. Her passion for music is now shaping her future ambitions.

انها را با دوستان در میان گذاشته و رویش می دهد و ارتباط بر قرار می کند.
About the storyteller
مهدی، زودرس به دنیا آمده. او فقط با یک چشم که ان هم کم بینایی دارد، زندگی می کند. بنابراین ، خواندن و نوشتن چالش برانگیز بوده است با این حال عاشق شعر هست
(Mehdi was born premature and has impaired vision. Mehdi loves poetry, in particular Shakespeare's poetry. He decided to learn English in order to enjoy and translate these poems into Persian. He enrolled in TAFE English courses and has made it to Level 4 qualifications. As a result, he has succeeded in translating Shakespeare's poems.
Mehdi sends the translated poems to his friends for editing and feedback. Then he calls his friends to have a chat about the meaning of the poem. Finally, he shares them with the Persian community, wherever he can.
About the storyteller
Mehdi was born premature and has impaired vision. His love of poetry inspired him to find ways to read, write and enjoy the beauty of language.

Tekerlekli bir Paralimpik olan Nazim Erdem (Naz), Turkiyede dogmus cok kucuk yaslardan sonra ailesiyle birlikte Avustralya'ya göç etmistir. 20 yaşında, sığ bir suya atladigi icin kuadriplegik (dört uzvun da felc olmasi) olmustir. Nazim Erdem su an Avustralya Quadriplegic Association'da (AQA) Practice Leader olarak çalışıyor ve yaralanmalar, hastalıklar ve diğer olaylar nedeniyle hayatları etkilenen insanlara, yaşamın her alanına katılmaları ve katkıda bulunmaları için destek saglamaktadir. Nazim, gecirdigi kazadan sonra omurilik yaralanması rehabilitasyonu sirasinda tanistigi bu kuruma birkaç yıl sonra, 1997'de calisan olarak katılmistir.
(Today's guest speaker is Nazim Erdem, who is the recipient of an Order of Australia Medal, a successful Paralympic athlete and is a team leader in a disability service and support organisation in Victoria. In this interview, Nazim shares information and services offered by the Australian Quadriplegic Association (AQA), where he works as a Practice Leader. This information can be very useful to everyone involved in the disability community and gives insight into how individuals can benefit from existing services that help them act independently.

A Paralympian on wheels, Nazim Erdem (Naz) was born in Turkey and later migrated to Australia with his family. He became quadriplegic (a person affected by paralysis of all four limbs) at the age of 20 after diving off a pier into shallow water. Nazim Erdem now works as Practice Leader at the Australian Quadriplegic Association (AQA), a member-based not-for-profit organisation. For more than 30 years, they have resourced people whose lives have been disrupted by injuries, illnesses, and other events, to participate in all aspects of life fully. Nazim joined AQA in 1997, a few years after being introduced to the organisation via the support he himself received after sustaining a spinal cord injury from diving into shallow water.

Salwa Wardeh Madbek works as a volunteer with the Parish of St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church in Adelaide, South Australia through the program Cultural Connections in Disability. The Church started offering this program in 2020 together with other community organisations and under the leadership of the Multicultural Communities Council of South Australia. The program aims to raise awareness about services available to the South Australian community including people with disabilities.
