فقدت منتهى بصرها تدريجياً في أولى سنوات شبابها في العراق. هاجرت الى أستراليا كلاجئة في بداية 2020 ولم تتسنى لها الفرصة بعد لتعلم اللغة الإنكليزية بسبب الحجر الصحي المتتالي خلال أزمة الكورونا. حالياً، تتابع برنامج اجتماعي افتراضي Telelink حيث تتوفر لها فرص التواصل عبر الهاتف وتنمية علاقات الصداقة مع مهاجرين آخرين في أستراليا من ذوي الإعاقة البصرية ممن يتكلمون العربية.
Telelink هو أحد البرامج التي تقدمها مؤسسة Vision Australia.
How could you engage in social life in Australia and make new friends when you do not speak English and you have arrived at the beginning of lockdowns during the Covid19 crisis? Muntaha shares with us about her participation in regular social meetups via the phone. This program is introducing her to other migrants with similar lived experience and who live all over Australia.
About the storyteller
Muntaha lost her sight gradually in her early youth years in Iraq. She has been in Australia as a refugee since 2020 and has not had yet the opportunity to learn English due to the Covid 19 outbreak and the consecutive lockdowns. For the meantime, she is engaging in social life through the virtual social program Telelink that is allowing her to connect over the phone and cultivate friendship conversations with other migrants in Australia who speak Arabic and with whom she shares vision impairment.

He wants to change community attitudes for people to understand the power of accessible transport for people with disability. Quang likes to share his own experience of non-accessible transport, and talk about how he overcame these barriers with peers.

Quang is from South-West Sydney and enjoys playing sports, fishing, designing car technology and reading. He lives with cerebral palsy and verbally communicates by using his phone and computer's text-to-speech function.
As Quang uses text-to-speech technology to communicate, he has asked for his interview to be read out by a voice actor.

For those who are interested in visiting this place to use its accessible facilities, the beach operates throughout summer during the months of December to March. Matting to get across the sand and into the water is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
