(Tracy has adopted a guide dog called Ah-Wong. In this episode, she shares with us how she adopted Ah-Wong and the important issues to be considered before adopting a guide dog. Ah-Wong is a reliable mobility aid to Tracy, helping her navigate the world so that she is now more confident and independent to go out frequently to meet people and enjoy her life. Tracy and Ah-Wong have also established a strong human and animal bond. Ah-Wong gives her companionship and is an important emotional support for Tracy, making her feel fulfilled and connected.

Tracy Wang is a visually impaired person who lives a quality and active life. She is a devoted volunteer, actively participated as a peer support mentor for Guide Dog Australia. She is also a volunteer for Vision Australia where she serves as a volunteer interpreter for those in need. She is also the facilitator in one of the Telelink groups. She is dedicated to sharing her experiences and knowledge to help people with vision impairment living a more independent, exciting, and fulfilling life.

He shares how they are connecting community members to endless opportunities to fulfil their potential for economic and social participation according to their needs. The guest speaker will also talk about how they are supporting job seekers in their local communities who are struggling with the impact of unemployment, to find the information, advice, and additional support they need. The guest speaker said their services are inclusive for everyone. He will also talk that their program is using the holistic approach to the development of skills, assets, opportunities, and capabilities to learn, work and engage the community members with the diverse range of services within Victoria to make connections.

Tanya, a Turkish Australian working for Services Australia as a Multicultural Service Officer, educates Centrelink clients and service providers about their rights and responsibilities as part of her job. Tanya works in partnership with various agencies, including disability services that serve migrants and refugees, so that they have a good understanding about the eligibility criteria for the Carers Payment, Carers Allowance and Disability Support Pension, so they can assist and support their clients.
Throughout her role, Tanya empowers and strengthens the independence of people with disabilities by sharing knowledge and listening to people's diverse needs. She acts as a mentor and helps people manage official government documents. She also advocates for individuals in relation to all other issues they may be faced with. She services consumers from all backgrounds, all disabilities, all works of life and anywhere across South Australia with the vision and values at embody inclusion and equality.
Outside of her professional role, she is also the president of TASA (Turkish Association of SA) where she assists the Turkish Community with anything they need. Based on her experience in these two roles, Tanya talks about welcoming and accessible organisations and places where people with disabilities, especially where they come from culturally and linguistically different backgrounds, could gain information and resources to live well.

Tanya came to Australia from Cyprus in 1970 and has since worked many multidisciplinary fields.
Her first paid job was working as a braille transcriber in two different schools, assisting visually impaired students and their teachers in transcribing braille into English and English into braille. Tanya worked in many other aged care and disability organisations such as Aged Rights Advocacy Service, Aged Care and Housing Group, Community Visitors Scheme and other similar organisations. Currently, she works for Services Australia/Centrelink as a Multicultural Service Officer and part of her job involves educating Centrelink customers and service providers about their rights and responsibilities.
Tanya begun her tertiary studies when she was 41 years old, shortly after becoming a grandmother. She has gained a Diploma in University Studies, Bachelor of Social Work Degree and Master Degree in Public Policy and Management. She also worked as a lecturer in many educational institutions.
She is the President of the Turkish Association of South Australia. Tanya has received many awards during her working life and some of these are Order of Australia Medal (OAM) during 2017, International Women’s Day award in 2021 and Federation of Ethnic Communities Council of Australia award in 2005.

(The storyteller has talked about her job as a Patient Service Assistant (PSA) at one of the hospitals in Melbourne. She will talk about how she came to know about the PSA course. The storyteller will talk about how to search the courses online. She has used Google search engine to search for the PSA course and has pursued a six-month Patient Service Assistant course. She said she has done 160 hours of unpaid placement at the Hospital and got the job in the same place after her dedicated work. Her first day at the workplace was very welcoming for her. She has made good friends and her supervisor is also very supportive. She made her decision on her own to continue this work after her placement. This job has given her independence. The storyteller will also talk about how she improved her English at the workplace. She has developed her professional and personal networks with health professionals, colleagues, and friends respectively.

فستیوال چند فرهنگی تاونزویل (Townsville Multicultural Festival) بیست و پنج ساله شد ولی بخاطر محدودیتهای ویروس کرونا به کاروان شادی (Carnival of Joy) تبدیل شد و به چهارده نقطه مختلف تاونزویل سفر کرد و مردم را به شور و شوق و دیدن سه مجسمه ساخته شده از تندیس غول پیکر کوالا (Koala)، کانگورو (Kangaroo) و کوکابارای (Kookaburra) خندان که از حیوانات بومی استرالیا هستند، دعوت کرد.
این فستیوال معمولا در مکانهایی مانند دانشگاه که مجهز به پارکینگ مخصوص برای معلولان و توالت سیار و قابل دسترس هست، بر گزار می شود. جایگاه خاصی هم جهت نشستن برای کسانی که صندلی چرخ دارند وجود دارد و بعلاوه، در ورودی فستیوال، سطح شیب دار برای استفاده معلولان مهیا شده است۰ ورود به فستیوال برای تمام افراد معلول و فرد مراقب آنها مجانی است و همچنین افراد نابینا با سگهای راهنما مورد استقبال قرار میگیرند.

دکتر فروردین دلیری برای ایجاد یکدلی و وحدت میان قومیت های مختلف استرالیایی مدال (OAM) را برای ارائه این خدمات برجسته دریافت کرده و در بسیاری از زمینهها ی هنرهای عمومی، از جمله تاتر، مجسمهسازی، نقاشی و نویسندگی فعالیت میکند. او سازمان دهنده جشنواره چند فرهنگی تاونزویل (Townsville Multicultural Festival) و بنیانگذار کارناوال شادی (Carnival of Joy) است.
(The Townsville Cultural Festival has been running for twenty-five years. Due to Covid-19, it has been transformed into a Carnival of Joy that is travelling to at least 14 parts of Townsville, inviting people to enjoy sculptures of three iconic Australian animals: a Koala, a Kangaroo and a Giant Laughing Kookaburra. This festival is usually held at a venue, such as a university, with ramp access and mobile toilets. There are special free seating for those who use wheelchairs. It has a ramp at the entrance of the festival. People with disabilities who have carers do not need to pay a fee for entry, and blind people with guide dogs are welcome as well.
The Caravan of Happiness is a visual, auditory and tactile experience, showcasing three statues of native Australian animals such as the giant koala, giant kangaroo and giant laughing kookaburra, and is accessible to people with sensory disabilities. For instance, a blind person can enjoy the sound of the sculpture's laughter and can touch it, a deaf person can see and touch it and a person in a wheelchair can hear, see and touch the art.
About the guest speaker
Dr Farvardin Daliri is the recipient of an OAM for creating harmony between Australians of many races, and is involved in many areas, including public arts, sculpting, painting, writing and is an organiser of the Multicultural Townsville Fest and the founder of the Carnival of Joy.
