(This story illustrates how driving provides a kind of independence and allows you to travel more around your community or to participate in more lifestyle activities.
Many people with disabilities need special training and advice to get their driver's license. Having a disability does not always prevent you from being able to get a driver’s license and if learning to drive is a goal of yours there are ways you can be supported to achieve your goal. Most people with disability can learn to drive a car. While not all driving instructors provide training for people with disabilities, some instructors can be specialised in supporting disabled drivers and may have experience in using particular teaching styles which suit how they learn. Disabled drivers need an approved driving instructor (ADI) whom are specialised in helping people with disabilities to drive.
