About the guest speaker
A Paralympian on wheels, Nazim Erdem (Naz) was born in Turkey and later migrated to Australia with his family. He became quadriplegic (a person affected by paralysis of all four limbs) at the age of 20 after diving off a pier into shallow water. Nazim Erdem now works as Practice Leader at the Australian Quadriplegic Association (AQA), a member-based not-for-profit organisation. For more than 30 years, they have resourced people whose lives have been disrupted by injuries, illnesses, and other events, to participate in all aspects of life fully. Nazim joined AQA in 1997, a few years after being introduced to the organisation via the support he himself received after sustaining a spinal cord injury from diving into shallow water.
