마음의 평화를 찾기위해 마인드풀니스에 관심을 갖는 사람들이 많아졌습니다. 하지만, 너무나 많아진 정보와 각양각색의 실천방법들이 쏟아지는 모습에 또 다른 혼란을 경험할 법도 합니다. 마인드풀니스 연구자이자 수행자인 황윤숙 박사는 모두에게 맞는 정답은 없다고 말합니다. 황박사에 따르면 마인드풀니스 실천은 장애를 가진 분들께 나타날 수 있는 공격적 행동을 감소시키는데 효과가 있습니다. 이는 장애를 가진 분들이 다른 사회구성원들과 소통하고 함께 살아가는데 큰 도움이 된다는 의미입니다. 장애 당사자가 직접 배우고 실천하기 어려운 경우도 있습니다. 이럴 때 가족이나 가까운 분들이 마인드풀니스 실천하면 긍정적인 효과가 전달될 수도 있다고 합니다.
About the guest speaker
황윤숙 박사는 세계적인 마인드풀니스 연구자이자 수행자입니다. 한국에서는 장애 청소년을 가르치는 특수교사로 일했습니다. 이후 시드니대학에서 박사를 마치고, QUT, 그리피스, 호주 카톨릭 대학에서 근무하며 통합교육에 관한 강의를 하고 장애, 교육, 마인드풀니스와 삶의 질에 관한 연구를 했습니다. 주말엔 신선한 야채와 과일을 파는 로컬 마켓을 즐겨찾습니다.
(More and more, people are interested in mindfulness. However, too much information and various explanations about how to practice mindfulness may throw our mind into further disarray. Dr Yoon-suk Hwang, a mindfulness researcher and practitioner, stresses that there is no right answer for everyone. According to Dr Hwang, mindfulness is effective in reducing aggressive behaviour that people with disabilities may need help managing. It means that mindfulness could help people with disabilities interact with and live well in the community. At times, a person with disabilities may find it difficult to learn and practice mindfulness. If that's the case, then the positive impact of mindfulness could be even transmitted from family members or other close friends who practice it.
About the guest speaker
Dr Yoon-suk Hwang is an internationally renowned researcher and a mindfulness practitioner. Back in Korea, she was a specialist teacher working with adolescents with disabilities. Since completing her PhD at the University of Sydney, Dr Hwang has worked at Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University and Australian Catholic University, teaching inclusive education, and researching disability, education, mindfulness and quality of life. On the weekend, Dr Hwang enjoys spending time at local markets and being on the hunt for farm-fresh produce.
