透過學習不同的語言,不但能令我們了解到語言背後的歷史和文化,也可以加強與其人民的溝通,甚至提昇工作技能。本集Charmaine 請來維州公立語言學校的區域主任 Kerry Law, 為我們介紹其多元的語言課程。維州公立語言學校是一所政府的語言學校,在墨爾本有四十多所分校,為學生提供政府認可的不同的語言訓練。訪問內Kerry 分享了維州公立語言學校為殘疾的學生作出相關的支援及輔助,令他們可以有效及愉快地學習語言。

Kerry早在1987 年隨家人從香港移民到澳洲。儘管早期在中學上課時,在英語語言學習中遇到不少挑戰和困難,最後Kerry於 1996 年以優異的成績完成了教學和教育學士。Kerry 於 1997 年開始了她的教學生涯,作為中文和音樂小學教師。她參與了 DET(教育部)和語言協會眾多的教育研究和項目,使她擔任不同的角色,不僅是Doncaster Gardens小學和VSL的中文老師、教育學術和中文系主任,以及 DET 亞洲研究維州東區主任。 Kerry 目前是維州公立語言學校區域經理之一,負責管理四個校區,致力為學前至 12 年級學生提供超過 15 種語言學習課程。
(When learning a new language, learners can acquire not only knowledge about its history and culture, but also communication skills which are beneficial to future job search. In this episode, Charmaine has invited Ms Kerry Law, the area manager of the Victorian School of Languages (VSL) to tell us about the inclusive language programs in VSL. VSL is a mainstream government school with more than forty campuses in Victoria offering different languages training to students. Kerry also shares with us how VSL assists students with disability, enabling them an effective and happy learning journey.

About the guest speaker
Kerry migrated from Hong Kong to Australia with her family in 1987. Despite all the challenges and difficulties she completed with high distinctions from Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Education in 1996. Kerry began her teaching career in 1997 as the Chinese language and a general music teacher at primary schools. Her involvement in numerous educational research and projects with DET (Department of Education) and languages associations lead her into different roles, not only as a Chinese teacher at Doncaster Gardens Primary School and the Victorian School of Languages, a Professional Learning Team Coordinator and Chinese faculty coordinator for VSL Area East 1, as well as the DET Eastern Metropolitan Region Studies of Asia Network Leader. Kerry currently is one of the Victorian School of Languages Area Managers who manages four campuses with over 15 languages offered for Foundation to Year 12 students.
